The case for virtual schools
Today with increased access to Information Computer Technology, one may not have to go to a physical school to attain an education. There is definitely a place for personal interaction in discipling or educating someone. But this can significantly be supplemented and enhanced by on-line type of learning too. MIE is preparing to provide such services which will help people to carry out their teaching and learning without necessarily going to a physical school but of course with significant personal interactions between the teacher and the learner.
The goal in all of this is to break the un-necessary routine for most families today where every member, irrespective of their age, wakes up early in the morning and leaves home for some place out there and that is where their lives happen. We desperately need to restore the value of a home and a family institution in our society. It used to be a meaningful adage that ‘east to west, home is best’, but one wonders if it still applies today. Virtual schools could be the solution to this problem in this day and age. And as far as MIE is concerned, we commit by God’s grace to develop materials and systems which will support and allow this form of teaching and learning to happen.
